On June 15th, from 10:00 to 14:30, the conference of the Children’s Palliative Care Society “Bridges that unite” will take place online, which will take place on the website www.tiltivieno.lv. Caring, family, worries, support, love, selflessness, tolerance, children – these are the topics that unite us, every person, family, professional. The conference will bring together representatives of every Latvian population, family, state and local government institutions involved in the provision of palliative care services, and the non-governmental organization sector. Representatives of Zvannenieki House Sandra Dzen\u012bte – C\u0101l\u012bte and Juris C\u0101l\u012btis, leading expert on diversity management issue Rasma P\u012bpi\u0137e, initiator of the project \u201cIn the Zone of Despair\u201d Evija Unama, psychologist, cognitive behavioral therapist Di\u0101na Zande.<\/p>\n
There are 8304 children with special needs registered in Latvia [1], who grow up both inside and outside their families. These are children who are between us every day but are often invisible. More than 600 families receive palliative care because they have children with particularly severe and incurable diseases, and support is needed for all family members.<\/p>\n
Linda Zarovska, a communication specialist says of the idea behind the conference: In palliative care, it is possible to see that sadness and joy are coexisting conditions. Families with children with special needs do not want to feel different and unacceptable in society – walking down the street, visiting a doctor, specialists, pre-school institution, school, events, playgrounds. That is why we all need to be involved. \u201d<\/p>\n
The ideas, conclusions and proposals obtained during the conference will be submitted to state and municipal institutions for the improvement of palliative care services.<\/p>\n
The Children’s Palliative Care Association has also started work on the establishment of a Multifunctional Children’s Palliative Care Center “Bridges of Dreams”, the implementation of which requires greater public involvement and support, and this conference is one of the steps to successfully implement the planned project. The conference is organized by the Children’s Palliative Care Society, which in 2021 is implementing activities to educate and raise awareness about children with disabilities and their families as an integral part of society, the importance of palliative care and the opportunity for everyone to support families with children with special needs. The event is financially supported by the Society Integration Fund from the Latvian state budget allocated by the Ministry of Culture.
