In Latvia, there are two children’s palliative care units: VSIA Children’s Clinical University Hospital (hereinafter ‘BKUS’) and SIA Liepājas reģionālā slimnīca (Liepaja Regional Hospital).
The BKUS Palliative Care Service provides palliative care services at home in collaboration with the Children’s Palliative Care Society, providing the following services to every family on the palliative care register:
· Palliative home care service for patients living in Riga and the Riga region 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
· Telephone consultations by specialists of the Palliative Care Team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
· Scheduled consultations at home by specialists of the Palliative Care Team throughout the country;
· Consultations at the BKUS Palliative Care Service by specialists of the Palliative Care Team
· Psychosocial and spiritual support for families during the child’s illness and the grieving period (24 months after the loss of the child);
· Support groups for families (parents, siblings and grieving families).

In the Kurzeme region, palliative care services at home are provided jointly by specialists from the palliative care unit of the Liepaja Regional Hospital,the Dižvanagi Society, and the Children’s Palliative Care Society, who provide the following services:
· Scheduled consultations at home by the palliative care team specialists for patients living in Liepaja and Kurzeme region every day, by prior arrangement by phone;
· Telephone consultations by specialists of the Palliative Care Team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
· Outpatient consultations by palliative care team specialists (at the Baltic Rehabilitation Centre or in the palliative care room of the Regional Hospital), by prior arrangement by phone;
· Outpatient psychological and psychotherapeutic counselling – scheduled, by prior arrangement.
· Psychosocial and spiritual support for families during the child’s illness and the grieving period (24 months after the loss of the child);
· Support groups for families raising a terminally ill child;
· ‘Breathing Space’ services (A decision from the municipality’s social service is required).
